Project 2: Visual Stories in progress!

Students are working on the creation of a visual story that helps convey a deeper understanding of a topic of their choice, provides awareness, reveals unknown information, uncovers needs, and makes areas for improvement evident. They are  also using data to explain and build an argument, show actual evidence and indicate possible ways forward. Here a selection of slides from three students and a brief description of each project.

Pitbulls: How the once highly admired breed became so misunderstood. This project is about how Pit Bulls have unfairly gained a bad reputation, and new legislation is required to reverse various city and state bans because their aggressive nature is a myth that has been orchestrated by the media. There are many more bite-related dog deaths by a series of other dog species.

Role of housing insecurity in poverty. This project is about how the role of housing insecurity inequalities embedded in the broken low-income housing system designed to help families like Jennifer’s, making it nearly impossible to secure a low-income home due to the extraordinarily high demand and low availability. Once again, legislators face the responsibility to enact imperative unconventional policies that focus on this topic with urgency.

The Insulin Roller Coaster. This project is about the immune system and health benefits intermittent fasting can offer to people who decide to adopt these various meal timing schedules. Throughout the project, the hormone Insulin is compared with a roller coaster as a way to describe the complex processes during fasting stages. This is a relatable and easy to understand analogy.

Other topics include Bookmark the Love Stories about young adult novels, Put Waste in the Right Place: RECYCLE about recycling, Telling All Women’s Stories Improving Representation of Women of Color, and Killer whales.
